In this drop’s Faculty Highlight, we will be putting the spotlight on Mrs. Grillo, otherwise known as Mrs. G! She loves Harry Potter, and she teaches (PLTW) - Principles of Engineering and Civil Engineering & Architecture at our high school.
Mrs. Grillo enjoys teaching Engineering to students because it “is a truly hands-on, project-based curriculum.” She says that it creates “an environment that fosters creativity, encourages critical thinking, and inspires students to develop problem-solving skills as they explore solutions to real-world challenges.”
Her favorite part of the job is getting to see and connect with the creativity that flows out of students. She explains that seeing students “[take] a concept…and watching each individual bring their own unique vision to life through their projects” is “incredibly rewarding."
A teaching practice that Mrs. G takes pride in “getting to know [her] students and building strong, positive relationships with them in a safe and supportive learning environment." She says she wants “[her] students to feel genuinely excited to come to class each day because they know they can be themselves.” She wants every student to feel a little less stressed as they step into her classroom, knowing that “they are about to take part in something special—[the] magical experience [of] Engineering.”
Finally, when asked about her favorite memory at Vestavia, she said that “as a new teacher at Vestavia Hills High School, the best part of my experience has been how welcoming the faculty, staff, and students have been. From day one, it has felt like family, and for that, I am
truly grateful and blessed to be part of the Vestavia Hills team.”
Mrs. Grillo is a wonderful teacher, and we are so lucky to have her teaching here at Vestavia!
