The Vestavia Hills Track and Field team delivered an outstanding performance at the CrossPlex Indoor Track State Meet that took place in Bessemer on January 31, 2026.


The girls team claimed State Runner-up, earning 63 points with 9 girls in 17 events; additionally, the boys team, consisting of 12 guys in 16 events, won 4th place with a whopping 70 points! 


Vestavia Hills’ outstanding track athletes competed in a variety of events ranging from shot put and pole vault to the 3200-meter, 1600-meter, and 800-meter runs. The athletes' hard work, grit, and character shone through when the final results were announced, showcasing their team achievements and the extraordinary achievements of the individual athletes.


JT Hayes put up a stellar performance, bringing home 2 State Championship titles. He started by claiming first in the 3200-meter with a time of 9:24, then went on to win in the 4x800 relay with his fellow team members Davis Witt, Jackson Mize, and Ethan Meadows with a time of 8:04. 


From the girls, Riley Zeanah came in as the state champion in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:15. Later, joining the girls 4x800 team—Grace Won, Abby Allen, Riley Zeanah, and Kate McKinnon—and finishing first with an exceptional time of 9:40. These team races contributed greatly to the team's points.

Other notable finishes from Saturday included:


Abby Allen, who came in 3rd.


 The girls' 4x400-meter relay—Abby Allen, AJ Litty, Shana Shaw, and Riley Zeanah—also showed impressive work after finishing in the top three in the finals.

Additionally, in the 1600 meter, AJ Litty finished 2nd with a time of 5:04, and Olivia Carroll finished 6th, scoring many points for the team. 


Vestavia’s success also came from the Field events division.


Krislyn Thomas jumped an impressive 10-6 in the pole vault to come in second place, with Madelin Davidson also coming in 4th. Drake Renta placed 3rd in shot put, and Vaughan Rainer cemented his spot on the podium in the Ambulatory 60m. 


The Indoor State Meet was a tremendous finish to the indoor season and sets the stage for an exciting outdoor campaign ahead.
