SUMMMMEERRRRR!!!!!!

Summer is on the horizon and we’re almost free from school, but you may be wondering to yourself how you’re going to spend your relaxation time. Lucky for you, Birmingham offers a variety of things to do once we get through exams.

Maybe your feet are itching to touch some grass! Fun fact, Alabama has the greatest biodiversity in the nation. You experience the wonders of nature’s beauty and visit one of our many naturally abundant parks, such as Oak Mountain State Park or the Botanical Gardens. If you like to hike, Moss Rock Preserve has many trails, all differing in difficulty and distance.

If the outdoors aren’t for you, here’s some indoor activities to explore instead. You could go to one of the many museums that Alabama has to offer including the McWane Science Center, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, and the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum. Apart from museums, Activate, Breakout, and Vestavia Bowling are three great options to consider. During the school year, we’ve seen the release of many great movies, such as Project Hail Mary, Zootopia 2, Sinners, One Battle After Another, and Marty Supreme — some movies that you can catch this summer are Spider Man: Brand New Day, Backrooms, the Odyssey, and Supergirl.

If you’re looking for something to eat, then there’s a variety of cafes and restaurants that you can visit for great food and drinks. Pink Lantern, which is a cafe located downtown, offers popular drinks like Vietnamese coffee and matcha, plus your typical drinks such as coffee and tea. If you're looking for a way to cool down in the hot summer heat, Sunshine Creamery is the perfect place to get some delicious ice cream! 

Unfortunately for all of us, summer work is a burden that we’ll have to contend with at some point during our well deserved break. If you haven’t checked the Vestavia Hills School system website for information about what summer work you’ll have to complete, you should do so soon so you aren’t caught off guard the day before school starts.
