Prom

This past weekend, Vestavia Hills High School students participated in one of the most special events of high school: prom. Junior and Senior students attended the last dance of the 2024-2025 school year on April 5th, and the night was especially memorable for the seniors as their last night out with VHHS.

Although prom is only one night, planning for the event kicked off months ago. Groups have been working hard to establish timelines for the afternoon, find special outfits, and reserve locations. The schedule for a group’s school dance plans usually consists of photos, dinner, the dance itself, and an after-event. This year, juniors took pictures at the traditional location, Vestavia Hills Country Club. A majority of seniors sparked a new tradition by taking photos at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, which many commented had a beautiful backdrop but a terrible parking situation. Due to the small capacity of the garden’s parking lot, many groups overflowed into the zoo’s area. Despite the long trek to the location, the end result of the photos was wonderful.

Many groups chose luxurious dining locations, such as The Club, Kobe, and Birmingham Country Club. After dinner, groups headed to the main event, which was held at the Theodore building in Downtown Birmingham. This year, a perk of the location was valet parking, so a reduced number of guests were towed. The dance featured a live band, an array of fun refreshments, and tables to rest at. The dance floor was easily accessible, and the setup of an additional calmer room proved necessary for guests. One thing many guests would recommend for future planners to continue is the seating area. Those who attended were thankful for an area to rest their feet after a long day of walking around in heels. While some rested in the refreshment room, the rest of Vestavia partied together on the dance for to classic tunes.

At the end of the night, mostly seniors remained, soaking up the last moments dancing together. After the dance concluded, most junior groups hosted after parties throughout Birmingham, while senior groups headed out of town for lake weekends at Lake Martin and Smith Lake. My group enjoyed a calm weekend at Smith Lake, taking part in polar plunges and movie nights.

Although prom is over, there are still many weeks left together before the current seniors depart. Let’s make the most of them, and thank you so much to all the organizers of prom!
