New Orleans doesn’t know what’s coming for them, as French 5 from VHHS makes their entrance in The Big Easy.
In order to learn more about French and Creole culture, French 5 went on a trip to New Orleans, where they would take part in learning about the culture, food, and history of New Orleans--a time filled with laughter, joy, and tours for native French speakers, as well as multiple visits to the original Cafe Dupont (where the beignets rival those of Tiana’s.)
When asking some students what their favorite part of visiting New Orleans was, the majority of them enjoyed strengthening the bonds with their classmates that they have had class with for the past 4+ years. “I’ve been in classes with [the students in French] for years, but I never really developed relationships with them outside of that,” Ella Palmer, a senior in French 5 said when asked about her favorite part of the trip. “It was fun to get to know them a little more.”

The history behind New Orleans also resonated with the students a lot, specifically the history behind the French Quarter of New Orleans. French 5 was able to have a specialized tour in French, meant for native speakers. Claire Placzek explained that “The French Quarter tour was the best, but it was also really cool to listen and understand [a tour in a foreign language].” Palmer agrees with the history being really interesting, saying that she would love to visit the Preservation Hall again.
French 5 had a time not only decorated with sugar-dusted fingers from beignets and, but also a time filled with history, and a further understanding of French ad Creole culture, as well as a promise to return again--this time, to learn even more about the French and to become enamored again with the beauty that is New Orleans.
