Fall Charity 2025 Recap

ree

Vestavia Hills High School isn’t a perfect place, but there’s one thing we all can certainly take pride in: our school’s commitment to service.

On August 28, it was announced that The Lovelady Center would be our 2025 Fall Charity. Since then, we—the Rebel Family—have been dedicated to raising money for that worthy cause. There’s been fun, competition, dancing, and football—but what has been lighthearted fun for us will have an immense impact on our community. While you were purchasing hoodies from your Homecoming King or tickets to the student-teacher basketball game, you were funding the launch of Lovelady’s brand-new Cosmetology School. Because of your participation these past few months, dozens of women in need will leave The Lovelady Center with the career skills and certifications they need to get back on their feet. Lives will be transformed.

As Candace Jones said at our Fall Charity kickoff: “For you, it’s a fundraiser. For our ladies, it’s a game-changer.”

That being said, let’s take a look at how we’ve been raising all this money!

Student vs. Faculty Basketball Game

We cheered on our fellow students on October 1st at the student vs. teacher basketball game. This long-standing tradition brought in a good profit from ticket sales, and, like always, it was tons of fun. There was energy, camaraderie, and an electric spirit of competition. It was close, but, in the end, students pulled through to victory—something that hasn’t happened in over a decade!

Powderpuff

ree

For those who don’t know, Powderpuff is a night of flag football. Girls have the opportunity to play on a grade-level team, and guys can choose to be a coach or a member of the pep squad. A portion of the entry fee goes to support our fall charity!

On October 3rd, the 2025 tournament took place. Seniors dominated the freshmen in the first match of the night, then juniors beat the sophomores. Seniors ended up victorious over the juniors after the final match of the night.

We had the privilege of hearing Lovelady Center graduate Destiny Tebbetts speak before the final match. It was a good reminder that our fun is filled with purpose!

Homecoming

ree

A huge part of our fundraising comes from Homecoming—not just from ticket sales for the dance but from the efforts of our noble Homecoming King nominees. This year, we had Ward Rooks for the freshmen, Sawyer Downey for the sophomores, Hamp Holbert for the juniors, Will Davis for the seniors, and Hugh Easterwood for the band. Will Davis ended up raising the most money for The Lovelady Center and was crowned our 2025 Homecoming King!

The Homecoming dance took place on October 4th, and it was a night full of fun, as always.

Talent Show

ree

On October 23, we enjoyed performances from a handful of talented students. There was singing, poetry reading, guitar-playing, and, of course, entertainment from our hosts—thank you, SGA! In the end, Hollis Coleman was our winner. All students paid to attend, and the proceeds went to support The Lovelady Center.

Trunk or Treat

ree

We had a new event this year to support our Fall Charity, thanks to SGA Chaplain Harper Wolfe, and it was one that involved the whole community! On October 29, dozens of student groups presented their creative trunks, and the treating naturally followed. There was a wide range of themes, but the winner ended up being the “Pick Me” Frankenstein trunk.

All in all, we as a school and a community should be proud of the work we’ve put in. There are women and children who will greatly benefit from the money these past few months have produced. Whether you danced the night away at Homecoming or simply sat and watched the talent show, thank you for supporting our 2025 Fall Charity!
