Magic City Invitational

In early December, our Track and Field team began the official indoor season with the Magic City Invitational. Located at the Crossplex, our athletes spent their afternoons competing and supporting as they broke into the competitive season.Â
In the 60m ambulatory, Vaughan Rainer ran a 10.03, winning the event. In the 60m, Cance (Derek) Mills ran a personal record of 7.02, placing 7th in the overall meet and putting himself 2nd in the school’s record books. For the ladies, Shana Shaw ran a 7.97, becoming one of only two girls in Vestavia history to break 8 seconds.Â
In the hurdles, Tyler Bradshaw ran a blistering 8.65 for a personal best and 5th overall, followed by Malakai Armstrong’s personal best of 9.63. For the girls, Emily Jin ran a personal best of 10.71.Â
In the 400m, Walker McInnis led the guys with a 51.94, along with a personal best from Whitt Martin in 53.51. For the girls, Riley Zeanah led with a 59.52, the school record for the indoor 400m.Â
For the 800m, Mason Thompson placed 7th overall with a personal best of 2:03.74. Eli Prentice followed suit, placing 9th overall and PR-ing as well for a 2:06.19. For the girls, Grace Won ran a speedy 2:32.80, placing 4th overall. Our five girls entered the 800m, all placed in the top 20. This group included Grace Won (4th), Ruth Farmer (12th), Charlotte Anne Newell (14th), Avery Grace (17th), and Audrey McFarland (18th).Â
In the 1600m, Mason Thompson came back to place 3rd with a 4:31.48, along with Eli Prentice, who placed 9th and ran a personal best of 4:49.18. With the girls, Grace Won returned to place 3rd with a 5:31.04. Olivia Carroll followed, placing 5th overall with a 5:35.14. Charlotte Anne Newell came in 9th with a 5:42.77, Kate McKinnon placed 10th with a 5:47.03, Millie Black placed 11th with a 5:48.53, and Genevieve Gammill placed 14th with a 5:57.40.Â
Jackson Mize and Davis Whitt dominated the 3200m with 1st and 5th place finishes in 9:53.12 and 10:10.98, respectively. The girls outperformed the competitors, too, with AJ Litty placing 2nd with an 11:35.96 and Abby Allen right behind her in 3rd with an 11:47.50.Â
In the field, Jack Stokes, Ethan Estess, and Joseph Walker all gained personal bests in the high jump. Stokes jumped 5-10, Estess jumped over 5-04, and Walker jumped over 5-02.Â
Representing pole vault, Brady Ferrell placed 2nd with a jump of 13-06 while Josh Hahn placed 4th, going over 12-06. Ezekiel Putnam followed with a personal best of 10-06. For the girls, Krystlin Thomas won the event with a 10-06 jump. Madeline Davidson followed, jumping 9-06 and placing 5th. Elizabeth Griem jumped 8-06 for 8th.
For shot put, Henry Drew and Drake Renta placed 2nd and 3rd, throwing 50-04.75 and 49-08.50, respectively. Morgan Butler finished 9th, throwing a personal record of 45-09. For the ladies, Leonoer Villalba finished 10th, throwing 30-03.50. In the boys para-ambulatory, Vaughan Rainer placed 1st with a throw of 14-07.Â
For relays, the girls' 4x800 placed 4th with a 10:51.20. With the 4x400 relays, the boys' B team finished 6th with a 3:37.95 while the A team finished 7th with a 3:39.98. For the 4x200 relays, the boys' A team placed 10th with a 1.32.95.
