The Poetry Club is a club for young aspiring poets to read, write, and perform their poetry. It’s one of our more recent clubs, having been made only two years ago, but it’s already making an impact on the school. The club consists of 11 students from the grades 10th through 12th, and it’s done under the guidance of Ms. Robinson and Ms. Spradlin.
What makes this club so special is how quickly it’s made an impact in the lives of the students who participate in Poetry Club. At the same time, our school offers many clubs with a lot of people in them. The Poetry Club works on having a few students who can all contribute to the club's better good. That's what separates this club from the others; by allowing a sense of ownership it has inspired members to step in and take leadership roles to bring new ideas to the table.
At its core, The Poetry Club is more than an extracurricular activity. It's a place for students to use poetry to write about their emotions, passions, and personal experiences. Whether it's joy, sadness, love, or even frustration, the club encourages any form of poetry, making it a safe space for many members to express themselves in ways they may not feel comfortable doing elsewhere.
The leadership structure in the club reflects a sense of community where each student takes on an important role. So that everyone's voice is heard. The officers are the following:
President: Lindsey Bube
Vice President: Karen Mercado
Secretary: Herb Bryant
Treasurer: Isaac Savoie
Directors of Fundraising: AnaLiz Castellanos and Claire Potter
Event Coordinators: Kathy Frey, Namira Rubaiyath
Social Media Directors: Mae Mae Anderson, Lily Lochamy
Public Relations Director: Ben Hanje
They all work together to make each club meeting run smoothly, from planning events to sharing information online.
As the youngest club on campus, The Poetry Club proves that you don’t need to be a long time to make a meaningful impact on students' lives. With creativity, passion, and courage at its core, this group of young poets will continue to grow. And maybe they can inspire you to pick up a pen and write some poetry, and write some poetry.
