The Vestavia Hills High Schoolers got their spooky on early at the first annual Trunk or Treat that was hosted at Vestavia Hills High School, led by the VHHS Student Government Association (SGA). Many groups entered the Trunk or Treat, with their themes being diverse and creative, from a circus theme to an under-the-sea theme and even a hippie-themed car.

Trunk or Treat was created to support the Lovelady Center, which is the charity that Vestavia Hills High School has been donating to and supporting since the beginning of the year. The Lovelady Center is a center that is focused on second chances and leads women to empowerment and hope. VHHS chose the Lovelady Center as its fall charity, and they continue to support the Lovelady Center through activities such as the Trunk or Treat.

SGA Chaplain Harper Wolfe offered her insight into why the Trunk or Treat was started this year, explaining that she “wanted more opportunities for students to get involved with and serve the community.” As leaders in the school, the SGA is always willing to join the community with the students at the high school, as their main goal is to build community engagement and give back to those around them.

To entice students to come to the Trunk or Treat, a contest was held for those who had the best decorations on their trunks. The winner of the decorating contest was the “Pick Me” Frankenstein trunk.

“My favorite part of the trunk-or-treat was seeing all of my peers so excited to serve,” Harper explains when asked about her favorite part of the trunk-or-treat. She is very excited to continue the Trunk or Treat next year, claiming that many people showed an interest in the event, and she hopes that it will continue after her graduation.
