It’s that time of year again! As the holiday season is upon us, many Rebels have holiday traditions they do with their friends and family to celebrate the festive season.
Many students take advantage of the long winter break to go on fun trips. Some even do annual trips, like Nathan Xavier (sophomore), who “plan[s] a trip with [his] family friends from Georgia.” These annual traditions give students something to look forward to after exams. The holiday season is all about spending time with the ones you love most, so trips with family are always such a fun way to celebrate with your favorite people. Some travel to their family’s house to spend time with cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents to enjoy the warmth of close family. Some, after a busy exam season, stay cozy at their own home, and use the break as a time to relax and sleep in.
Many also have delicious cuisine traditions as well! Charlotte Elmore (sophomore) makes candy cane cookies with her family every year. Cooking and baking are wonderful ways to spend time with family, and also get a yummy treat out of it. Some families spend hours in the kitchen, turning a recipe into moments of laughter and connection. Sounds like a sweet tradition! Others celebrate by gathering with family to dine out, like Caroline Elise White (sophomore), who goes to Waffle House every year on Christmas Eve for breakfast. These sweet, simple traditions become something everyone loves the most.
Additionally, Vestavia hosts a plethora of local traditions that locals go to every year. For example, the yearly tree lighting is the perfect way for friends to come together to celebrate the start of the holiday season. Vestavia High School also presents their Celebrate the Seasons program, the best way for students to cheer on their peers and enjoy a great show. These events allow us Rebels to come together as a community to remind us that we are all one big family. Downtown, Alabama Theater offers screenings of Christmas movies from December 12th to December 22nd, another fun local opportunity for holiday festivity.
Finally, many students celebrate Christmas Eve at their church during their candlelight service. This yearly tradition brings together friends to celebrate the birth of Christ. This service gives us a moment of peace and prayer before the excitement of the following day.
No matter your traditions, The Pillar wishes you the best holiday season, filled with love, warmth, and plenty of festivities!
