As the two football teams line up facing one another, waiting for the snap, each player could be thinking any number of things. They could feel nervous or confident. Unenthused or excited. Unprepared, or ready.

On Friday, October 2nd, the Vestavia Hills Rebels will play against the Tuscaloosa County Wildcats in Tuscaloosa. The team is coached by the one and only Robert Evans, who has been the head coach for over 4 years. According to Alabama High School Football History (ahsfhs.com), since 2022, Evans has led the Rebels to 34 wins and only 18 losses. Unsurprisingly, this year’s season has been no exception to the outstanding work the Rebels are known for. They beat Parker High School 32 to 14, Spain Park High School 30 to 7, and Oak Mountain High School 43 to 14.

On the other hand, the Tuscaloosa Wildcats have had a tough season. So far, they have won 0 games and lost 5, and just recently they lost their coach, Cris Bell. According to an article by Amelia Hurley on tuscaloosanews.com, “Tuscaloosa County has let go of its third coach in four seasons, now-former head coach Cris Bell”. The past coaches were let go for the same reason: bad seasons. The last coach, Miles Holcomb, led a season of 1 win and 9 losses and was promptly let go, similar to Cris Bell. The game on Friday the 2nd against Vestavia Hills will be their first game with their new coach, Matthew Carden, and it’s expected that the leadership change will affect the outcome of the game.

While the Rebels line up to face the Wildcats, they will be ready. Ready to play strong, ready to play smart, and ready to win.
