Letter From The Editor

Personally, I look forward to the Grammy’s every year. While many awards shows grace TVs across America all the time, there’s just something about the magic of the Grammy’s that make it different. My family has always set aside that night in order to give our full attention to what is such an iconic event in music. From elaborate red carpet looks, to exciting performances, to tear-jerking speeches, those 4 hours of NBC air time are absolutely priceless. As we sit in our living room, forks deep in thai take-out, one thing becomes clear: the Grammy’s has something for everyone.

Whether it be my dad enjoying Trevor Noah’s jokes, or my mom gasping when Shaniah Twain hits the red carpet, the night is so multi-faceted that no one would think to request to change the channel. I think the best things are like the Grammy’s in that way; a potpourri of things to celebrate and enjoy.

Oddly enough, I’ve found that Vestavia is actually pretty similar to the Grammy’s (minus the appearances by Harry Styles and Beyonce). In a school this size, we are all able to find something that we enjoy. Whether it be a time-committing extracurricular, or even just a favorite class, I can say with a level of certainty that if you look around, you can find something you love. Opportunities are endless, and if there’s a goal you want to achieve that seems out of reach, look no further than Vestavia’s greatest resource: each other. A supportive and encouraging community is essential to success, and I cannot be more confident of its presence here.

In this drop, there are many different things to learn, and to celebrate. Catch up with our show choir, the Vestavia Singers, as they travel around the state competing against other choirs from across the board. Read up on the latest trends from Sadie’s last week, or use well-thought advice shared in a curated list of ACT tips. Whether or not you tuned in to the Grammy’s last night, I hope it can be understood that finding something you love can seem just as rewarding as one of those golden record players.

Happy Reading,

Sarah Dewees
