Hi everyone! I'm so excited that Pillar is back up and running, and I hope you can be a part of our story.
As the chaos of a new year settles down, the Vestavia Pillar is just kicking into gear. Although the behind-the-scenes work is hefty, I am looking forward to an amazing year!
Vestavia Pillar's fourth year will bring some changes. We will now release articles twice every month, with half the staff assigned to each drop. Also, we hope to launch printed editions at the end of the semester(s) and get the Vestavia Pillar in everyone's hands. Maybe we'll do senior quotes like the Vedette or end-of-the-year reflections.
Pillar’s staff meets monthly to discuss article assignments and set deadlines. The articles consist of events ranging from football games to homecoming dances. Yet, school news can only be entertaining to a certain extent. So, writers also have the option to cover topics that interest them, like the most interesting names at our school and the special scoop on the sewer disaster.
Each article is edited by our student editors: Eric Li on News, Angela Zhang on Student Life, Alan Sheng on Opinion, Grace Ding as Junior Editor, Abigail Wang as Promotional Editor, and Hannah Chen as Design Editor. After their edits, each article is reviewed by the Editor-In-Chief (me) and formatted for posting on the website.
I'm incredibly proud of this first drop! Our talented writers covered everything from the student population's opinion on school lunches to the math team’s trip to Orlando this past summer. I hope at least one article piques your interest and that our work can help you feel more connected to our school and community. But most of all, I hope you'll come back to read in the future!
Cheers,
Eric Wang
Editor-in-Chief
