What do you know about the Vestavia Hills Yearbook? Do you know its name? What about the effort put into making it?
There are many misconceptions about yearbook. The most common is that we don’t do enough work to be a class and that yearbook should just be a club. This is false. The Vestavia Hills Yearbook Staff puts in an enumerable amount of effort to create a book that showcases all of Vestavia’s students. The Vestavia Hills Reveille is the largest yearbook in the state of Alabama and is made almost entirely by students. The Yearbook Staff begins work on the book during the first weeks of school and works hard until the book is sent to be published in March.
The Yearbook Staff is composed of 24 10th-12th graders, three main editors, and our two sponsors: Mrs. Jennifer Dalton and Mrs. Shawn Woodham. Each and every member comes into class each day and works hard to complete their pages so that we can reach our deadlines. We start each book by completing Senior Ad pages and then work through the rest of the book in sections. While some might think yearbook is easy, the efforts involved prove it is not. Imagine having to fit 50 little boxes on two pages, evenly spaced, with enough room to fit names and a caption. There is a lot of trial and error that goes into creating each page, but there is instant gratification as soon as you see the page that you made printed in the book!
So, the next time you talk to someone on the yearbook staff, thank them for the hard work that they do to document all the fun and important moments of the school year!
