Things to do at Christmastime in Birmingham

With Christmas time just beginning, it’s good to have some ideas for fun family outings here in Birmingham. One of my favorite things to do with my family is to go and see a Christmas movie at the Alabama Theater. They show many classic movies such as White Christmas, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, The Polar Express, Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life, Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Elf, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. It is a great experience for families and there are many beautiful and festive photo opportunities. It is a wonderful way to spend time with family and really get in the holiday spirit.
Another great experience full of holiday fun is the beautiful Christmas at Alabama Splash Adventure. The event is called Magic of Lights. “Magic of Lights is a dazzling, drive-through holiday lights experience featuring favorite holiday scenes and characters of the season using the latest LED technology and digital animations. Experience Magic of Lights from the comfort and safety of your own car as you wind through the sparkling path of Birmingham’s new holiday tradition. One carload, one price,” says the event details on the website linked below. This is an especially easy family outing for those with young children or lots of children. All you have to do is get them in the car and drive through to see the lights.
The next activity is one that most of us have probably done, but not since we were kids. The McWane Science Center downtown shows The Grinch (2018) as well as The Polar Express in IMAX. If you haven’t seen a movie in the dome theater, it is a bucket list item for sure. As the description states, “Welcome to the pinnacle of cinematic immersion. Featuring a revolutionary IMAX® with Laser projection system, McWane Science Center’s theater is the only IMAX® Dome in the Southeast.” The Science Center also hosts The Grinch’s Jingle Bell Party. “Join us on December 9th and 17th for a day of holiday fun. Together, we are sure to make the Grinch smile! There will be dancing, crafts, cookies and hot chocolate, and a photo op with the Grinch!” (McWane Science Center). McWane hosts many fun holiday activities that are fun and educational for the whole family.
