Vestavia Choir to Perform Concert on November 1st

On Tuesday, October 25, the Vestavia Choirs were set to perform in the VHHS auditorium. This included AcaFellas, Voces Aurea, Show Choir, Ensemble, Honor Choir, and Just Singin’, as well as the freshman choirs. However, due to the tornado warning on the twenty-fifth, the concert was moved to November 1.

All of the choirs have worked hard to prepare about three pieces each for the concert. Not only have they practiced during class periods throughout the school day, but some of them also planned to spend some time before and after school to prepare for the concert. Mr. Burns and Mr. Stricklin have done a fantastic job of working with the students in going through difficult parts, practicing solfege, and memorizing the words to each piece.

The program for the Fall Choir Concert includes “Gute Nacht,” “Run Away with Me,” “Get On Board,” “Will There Really Be a Morning?,” “When the Party's Over,” “Ain’t Got Far to Go,” “The Skipping Stone,” and “Der Gang Zum Liebchen,” along with several other pieces. Many of these songs were rather difficult to learn, some with the different voices and lyrics in different languages.

Many of the choir students found this experience super enjoyable. In fact, they have loved working together like a family to perfect these pieces by gradually mixing the separate parts together—one of the most rewarding parts of practicing for a concert. The choir not only consists of people who have performed for years, but rather a diverse group of students willing to sing together.

Thus, the Fall Choir Concert will no doubt reveal the talent, hard work, and hours spent within the choir room that these students have poured into the show.
