This week looked a little different than normal, featuring an e-day on Tuesday and an unexpected event on Thursday.
On Monday, the lunchroom kicked off Halloween week with pizza crunchers and baked ziti. Many people consider this meal mediocre. Between two subpar options, most chose pizza crunchers over baked ziti. Maddie Prudhomme says the baked ziti “looks weird and freaks her out,” while others call the pizza crunchers soggy and claim they have gotten much worse than before. While the entree fell short, students enjoyed the fruit--crunchy grapes.
Tuesday was an e-day for seniors. Many seniors took this opportunity to eat lunch with family and friends or to eat out at different restaurants like Taziki’s and Moe’s BBQ. For sophomores and juniors taking the PSAT at school, the lunchroom served lemon pepper chicken and crispy chicken sandwiches, which fall under the mediocre category, like Monday’s meal.
On Wednesday, the lunchroom served crispitos and chicken fajitas. Crispitos are a classic menu item, so almost everyone I saw had a plate loaded with crispitos and nacho cheese. However, some students are still concerned that the meat is chicken, and Maddie Prudhomme says it is “scary that it still looks like beef.”
Thursday showcased a surprising but pleasant surprise in the lunchroom. The ovens broke during 4th period, so instead of cheeseburgers and BBQ chicken sandwiches, Domino's Pizza was served for 5th period. Students were very excited about the pizza; in fact, many students in 3rd and 4th period came back to the lunchroom just to get a slice.
Friday was another great day in the lunchroom, as chili and grilled cheese sandwiches were on the menu. Emily Jin said she likes it “as long as I don’t question what’s in the chili,” and many students really enjoyed the baked potatoes and small pies, too. Every student I spoke to either loved this meal or heard it was delicious, so the lunchroom ended with a high note on Friday.
Overall, this week’s lunch menu had a slow start, but ended better than expected with surprise pizza and a lunchroom favorite to close out the week. Lunchroom food this week was above average, a great lineup before Halloween.
